What Are Dermal Fillers and Injectables?

Dermal fillers and injectables are some of the most popular cosmetic dermatology treatments in the world. These treatments are recommended for men and women as young as their 30s to address early lines, wrinkles and facial volume loss. You develop signs of aging because your skin breaks down due to a reduced amount of collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin. Some of our dermal fillers replenish hyaluronic acid to plump up the skin, while our injectables relax underlying muscles to allow the skin to smooth out and soften wrinkles.

How Much Do Dermal Fillers and Injectables Cost?

The cost of our dermal fillers and injectables does vary based on the product, the volume of product used and the number of injections. The injections are made at several points along and near the targeted wrinkles or areas of age-related volume loss. After meeting with you and learning what cosmetic concerns you would like to address, Dr. Llewellyn or his Aesthetic PA/RN will explain which dermal fillers and injectables would be best suited to address your concerns during your consultation. You can learn about our payment options on the financing page, and we accept cash and major credit cards.

  • No to minimal downtime — fits easily into your daily schedule

  • Recommended for men and women who do not want or need cosmetic surgery

Am I a Candidate for Dermal Fillers and Injectables?

Being a candidate for our facial fillers and injectables is primarily based on any history of allergic reactions, adverse side effects, or sub-optimal results from these types of products. Other considerations are the severity and nature of your wrinkles and age-related volume loss. Dr. Llewellyn or his Aesthetic PA/RN will examine your skin during the consultation and recommend the best dermal filler options for you.

What Should I Expect from Dermal Fillers and Injectables?

Facial fillers are administered with tiny, thin needles. Most patients are able to stay comfortable during the injections. Topical anesthesia is often applied prior to treatments to enhance comfort. Dr. Llewellyn and his Aesthetic PA/RN use precise injection sites to evenly distribute the products into the areas with lines, wrinkles and areas of volume loss. You may notice a small lump where the facial filler is injected. This is normal and will usually dissipate as the gel disperses into the skin. After the treatment, you may experience some tenderness, redness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding, and sometimes bruising at your injection site(s). Most of these symptoms, if they occur, usually last no more than a few days with the exception of bruising which may last up to 2 weeks.

Dermal Fillers and Injectables FAQs

Should you go to a plastic surgeon or dermatologist for fillers?

Both dermatologists and plastic surgeons are equally qualified to administer dermal fillers and injectables like Botox, but you should still do your research.

What age should you get fillers?

When to begin getting dermal fillers is a personal decision; however, there are benefits to starting early. Botox and dermal fillers together can be used preventatively for individuals in their 20s to thwart early signs of aging like crow’s feet, smile lines and loss of cheek volume.

Do fillers make your face sag?

No, fillers do not make your face sag, although that is a common misconception. The majority of the time, fillers will have no lasting effect on your skin whatsoever.

Do fillers change the shape of your face?

Yes, when desired, fillers can change the shape of your face, restore volume and create a more youthful appearance by selectively placing the filler in certain areas.

Is filler or Botox better?

One is not necessarily better than the other because they address different issues related to facial aging. They are often both used concurrently to address facial lines and to restore volume. Botox reduces the activity of muscles in the face that causes wrinkles (crow’s feet, forehead lines, glabellar lines, nose bunny lines), while facial fillers are used to restore volume and soften lines and folds typically on the mid and lower face.
