Nail fungus is a dermatologic condition that can result in your nails developing white spots or your nails becoming yellow, thickened, brittle and separating from the underlying nail bed. While nail fungus is a cosmetic issue for most patients, some patients develop discomfort and pain from their thickened toenails irritating the adjacent skin. Patients with diabetes and peripheral vascular disease have an increased risk of developing a secondary bacterial infections and should be more proactive and getting their nail fungus treated.

In some cases, Dr. Llewellyn may refer you to a podiatrist for surgical treatment of the nail.
