What is Wrinkle Treatment?

Wrinkle treatment is a way to help your skin look younger. While wrinkles are not medical concerns, many men and women are unhappy with the way their skin looks as they get older. You start to develop wrinkles around the time that you turn 30 years old. This sign of aging indicates that your skin has lost collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid over time. Collagen is a protein that is abundant in the body and found mostly in the connective tissues and skin. It gives these tissues shape and resilience. Elastin is a substance that allows your skin to maintain shape, similar to how a rubber band snaps back into place when you stretch it. Hyaluronic acid is another important substance found in the skin, as it attracts molecules of water to your skin and helps maintain volume.

Adding hyaluronic acid to the skin via dermal fillers softens the wrinkles and facial folds, such as nasolabial folds, and these products can also restore lost volume to other areas of the face. Dr. Llewellyn has worked with many types of dermal fillers through the years and has found the Juvederm family of products to provide the highest level of patient satisfaction as they result in a very natural feel and look. The Juvederm family of products include:

  • Juvéderm® XC
  • Juvederm Ultra XC
  • Juvéderm® Volbella XC
  • Juvéderm® Voluma XC
  • Juvéderm® Vollure XC

Wrinkles are also caused by the muscles of facial expression. Over time lines form around the eyes (crows feet), between the eyebrows (frown lines) and on the forehead. Botox® is a prescription medication that can relax the muscles that cause deep, unwanted lines on your face. While Botox® was FDA-approved in 2002 to treat the lines and wrinkles between the eyebrows, it is also widely used by dermatologists and dermasurgeons to improve crow’s feet, forehead lines and lines elsewhere.

How Much Does Wrinkle Treatment Cost?

The cost of fine line, facial folds and wrinkle treatment is based on the treatment plan that Dr. Llewellyn and his Aesthetic PA develops during the consultation. We can explain the cost after the appointment, as well as our payment options of cash and major credit cards. For more information, please visit our financing page.

Am I a Candidate for Wrinkle Treatment?

If you are bothered by facial folds, wrinkles, lip lines or loss of cheek volume and contour, you are likely a good candidate for our fine line reduction, volume restoration and lip wrinkle treatment.

How is Fine Line Reduction Performed?

Fine line reduction is performed by using one of the Juvéderm® gel-based products. The gel formula is injected into the skin. Fine line reduction requires the injections to be made more superficially in the the skin, whereas more prominent wrinkles are treated by placing filler a little deeper.

How is Lip Wrinkle Treatment Performed?

You can reduce mouth lines and enhance your lips with the hyaluronic acid that is found in Juvéderm® products. The hyaluronic acid draws moisture into the skin, adds fullness and gives your lips a soft, supple texture.

What Should I Expect After Wrinkle Treatment?

We ask that you arrive makeup-free when possible. If you would like to have a topical numbing cream applied to the injection area(s), please arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time.

After the treatment:

  • Do not work out or lay down for four hours if you have had Botox
  • Do not have any facial laser procedures for two weeks

Arnica supplements have been shown to reduce discomfort, bruising, and swelling from injectable procedures. Arnica pills may be started the day before or the day of treatment and should be continued until bruising has resolved.

Bruising is possible and, therefore, we recommend that you schedule any social plans accordingly. To minimize the risk of bruising, it is best to avoid aspirin (unless prescribed by your doctor), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (Advil, Motrin, Aleve or Ibuprofen), Gingko Biloba, Vitamin E, fish oil supplements two weeks prior to your treatment. If bruising does occur, we recommend Arnica, which is available in a natural cream and pill formulation. Many of our patients feel it helps with swelling and bruising. If bruising develops, it can take one to two weeks to resolve.

Depending on the Juvéderm® filler used, with optimal treatment, results may last up to one to two years. Keep in mind, however, results may vary.
